Remote Data Collection using Java servlet technology |

Description:
The Data Collection servlet project uses Java servlet
technology, in conjunction with HTTP messaging, to collect data
from remote sampling devices. When the system is fully deployed,
it will collect data from thousands of remote devices each day,
handling hundreds of simultaneous connections.
Java servlet technology was chosen for this project for a variety of
reasons: simple messaging via HTTP;
built-in TCP/IP connection management; support for threading; and a
rich API to significantly shorten the development cycle.
Apache Tomcat was chosen as the development platform for its
ready availability (freely downloadable) and standards compliance
(Tomcat is the J2EE servlet reference implementation),
allowing the client to migrate to a commercial-grade application
server if needed.
